The Medieval German Gothic Sallet splashed onto the scene in the mid 15th century. It took over the previously used bascinet and offered greater protection and mobility. Its primary distinction was its outward curve extending over the back of the neck. It was popular among foot soldiers and mounted fighters and made its way to many countries throughout Europe. Modeled after the original design, this 18 gauge steel piece is characterized by the long tail, comprised of three lames, that guards the back of the head and the neck. It provides protection for the upper face with a half visor and allows for attachment of a separate bevor. To ensure a comfortable and secure fit, an interior adjustable leather liner is included as well. With authentic Gothic style and durability, this sallet is perfect for costumes, collections, and display.
