A battle axe is an axe specifically designed for combat. Battle axes were specialized versions of utility axes. Many were suitable for use in one hand, while others were larger and were deployed two-handed. A battle axe is not just a weapon to kill enemies. For centuries it has been a symbol of power, military might and wealth in many societies, from Vikings to Mohicans. During an actual battle, axes were used in two ways: as a close-contact weapon and as a missile to be hurdled at the enemy.
