Norman Helmet
The Normans played a major military, cultural and political role in medieval Europe. They emerged from a northern region in France around the turning of the 10th century and quickly spread to England, Italy and Sicily as mounted warriors. Although they were known for many things, this choice of armor for protection often stands out. When one thinks of Normans, conical helmets, kite shields and long mail hauberks are often visualized. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®, our Norman Helmet has been designed after the most popular type of head protection they wore with a slightly curved forward peak. Although it didn’t cover much of the face, the piece that extends down in the front did protect the nose while not compromising vision. This helmet has been crafted from 18-gauge steel, handsomely age-finished, and an adjustable liner has been included for comfort. |
