Black Gambeson
Although mail provided soldiers with a great amount of protection, it certainly was not perfect. With the right angle, you could drive a weapon through a ring easily or at the very least, sheer it with a solid cut. Not only could a shallow cut slow a soldier down to quite a disadvantage, a blunt trauma could damage organs and break bones. A thick garment, typically stuffed with horse hair or extra fabric would provide an increased level of protection. Our Black Gambeson is one that would have been worn under a mail shirt, but you will notice that it is certainly attractive enough to wear on its own. This is the perfect piece to wear for any ensemble representing the Middle Ages or Renaissance. Order M, L or XL. |
