Early Scottish Dirk
Circa 1550 The handle of this Early Scottish Dirk is so stunning, you almost don’t notice just how stunning the blade itself is as well. You may already be able to tell that this is a direct descendent from the medieval ballock dagger. It was around the late 16th century that the grip form saw some changes, but eventually it developed into a form that anyone could recognize as being Scottish. The blade is single-edged and long for its type, with three blood grooves down the side. The hardwood handle has been intricately carved with a chevron pattern, commonly seen in this period. The Early Scottish Dirk was made to use with a basket-hilt claymore or a shield and sword, depending on preference. Anyone with an interest in the Highlands will certainly want to add this one to their collection. A scabbard has been included. |
