During the High Middle Ages, the great helm arose in popularity and stuck around through the 14th century. It was worn primarily by heavy infantry and knights in European armies, but was also the helm of choice throughout the Third Crusade, worn by Christian armies. Measuring 12”x 12” and weighing 3 pounds, our Leather Crusade Helmet captures the essence of that battle fought from 1189 to 1192. The long eye slots are created to be intimidating while key holes provide ventilation.
